Certification Authorities (CA)

The CA is the heart of the PKI and is responsible for identifying and issuing certificates.

The primary CA today is Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS) and we plan to offer additional products in the future.

Microsoft’s Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS)is the server role that allows you to build a public key infrastructure (PKI) and provide public key cryptography, digital certificates, and digital signature capabilities for your organization. Using AD CS provides a number of benefits, mostly around certificate administration. You can pull from the Active Directory and use the existing endpoint identity information that exists in AD to register for certificates (to avoid re-registering). You can also leverage existing group policy which allows you to configure AD Group Policies to dictate which users and machines are allowed which types of certificates. In addition, you can automate your organizations’s certificate provisioning and lifecycle management.
